Yes, I know. I have cried wolf many times since last walking a Camino and so many thing are just too convenient to blame. Disease this, political that, getting old…..and fat. I tell you I have baskets of excuses at the ready.
So now what happened to get me off my duff? A weak moment.
I received an email from Ivar. Now this wasn’t just to me, it was to the subscribers of the website http://www.caminodesantiago.me. This is one of, if not the most used website for pilgrim discussions. That statement sold the website short…..sorry Ivar. This is possibly the most convenient place to find out information about everything Camino. This was without question the most used resource for my first, and for that matter all of my Caminos. In fact I still look at the emails from Ivar telling me what the most read topics are each day, and then for the week.
Well, famously Ivar has never walked a Camino and I suspect he probably has his own baskets.
The email I received said he was going to organize a Camino from Sarria to Santiago on the last week of October and he was hoping to get up to 7 people to walk with him. The prospect of another Camino has always been in my mind, and then this invitation just sounded so interesting.
Everything like accommodations will be arranged except for most meals and drinks. (the drinks part could put anyone in the poorhouse in the Camino)
I asked a couple of questions, paid a quick deposit, and then booked the last spot.
Yikes. what have I done? I’m not in shape unless pear is just the right shape. (pretty sure it isn’t)
So I ordered a pair of waterproof running shoes and when they arrive….gulp…..I’ll start my preparations.
Now to dig out all of my other stuff. Backpack, poles, electrical adapters, flash light. Then there are all the items I’ve grown out of….You know, the things that shrunk in the washing machine.
I’m full of mixed emotions but looking forward to the adventure. This should be good.
